If youve had a dog, or have one now, the problems with having a bored, unchallenged dog, might be painfully obvious. If you dont think they are, then think of the common behavioral problems that you had to deal with. Most of them probably trace back to boredom.

Dogs are meant to work. They were bred to work for us, and before we were breeding them, they had to work for a living. Sometimes living in a world where everything comes easily, can create problems. Dogs that chew, jump, or lie around all day, might be bored. Just like humans they need to be mentally and physically stimulated. The failure to do this will result in problems that will affect your dogs happiness, and your own.

There are many ways for you to have fun with your dog, and some dogs will respond to certain activities, and others wont. It is best if you start as a puppy, but it isnt necessary. Some dogs love to fetch items. These dogs would have a high prey drive, they are the ones that like to chase squirrels and other small game.

If your dog is slightly goofy, and quick to please you, try agility training. It is a big game to dogs with the sense of fun to appreciate it. If they are eager to please you, they will face fears like running on a see saw or through a collapsible tunnel in order to make you praise them

If your dog is a large breed that pulls you easily when he is on the lease, maybe pulling is in his future. In pulling a dog is fitted with a harness, and given a sled full of weights. The dog to pull to most weights the farthest wins.

Dogs, Just like humans have their own interests. They need a hobby, and there is no one theyd rather do it with than you. So get both of you off the couch and head out.
