Puppy Biting
If you have a new puppy, you are probably enjoying the cuddles and kisses, and the warm puppy belly. However, the puppy honeymoon is short lived. At about 15 weeks your puppy is going to start displaying biting tendencies. Your dog isnt being vicious. It is natural for them at this age.
If you want to stop this behavior before it becomes a problem, you need to take some steps, and be consistent. Your puppy is just learning the rules in a new society, and you need to help them.
First of all, they are going to want to roughhouse and play games that enforce rough, biting behavior. Dont do it. It isnt cute when that puppy grows up and growls and wants to wrestle with the neighborhood children. So, dont wrestle, play tug of war, or in any other way encourage aggressive behavior. Take that want to play and direct it into doing things such as obedience training, or playing fetch!
If you think that allowing your puppy to play those rough nipping games isnt going to lead to problems you are mistaken. By not correcting it, you are saying it is okay. That is going to lead you straight into a life of being nipped at, and possibly having serious injuries.
If they insist on playing the rough games, try filling a spray bottle with water. When they start nipping, spray them and give them a firm No!. This way they know that you are unhappy with them, and will try to correct it. It might be seem to be punishing such a small dog, but if you dont do it now, you are going to have to battle it later.
Dogs just want to make us happy. They will eventually stop the biting behavior, if you are consistent with your training. If you are having trouble with getting your dog to stop the biting go and see a professional trainer. Let them show you the way to stop the puppy biting.
